The itinerary
- Drive through Asni and its Saturday market when the day falls right.
- Imlil, and the walk up through the walnut trees.
- A mule for the climb if you would rather not carry yourself.
- Lunch in a village house, with the valley below.
- Back down and return to Marrakech.

What you actually see
Imlil is the trailhead village for Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 metres. The village itself sits at 1,740 metres, at the end of the road, in a ring of mountains. It takes an hour and a half from Marrakech, the last stretch in tight switchbacks above the valley.
This is the most physical of the seven trips, and the finest if you like walking. Mule paths link the hamlets through walnut terraces and orchards. Depending on your fitness you climb to Aroumd, the next village, or to the plateau above the valley, with views of Toubkal when the weather is clear.
Lunch is taken in a family home or a guesthouse in the valley, often a slow-cooked tagine. Mules are still the main transport beyond the village, and you will pass them loaded with everything that goes up and down. This is not staged for visitors; it is how the valley works.
Questions about this tour
Do we need to be fit?
You need to be able to walk two or three hours uphill, nothing more. Adil adapts the route to your fitness, and staying in the village is fine if walking does not appeal.
Can we climb Toubkal in a day?
No. The ascent needs two days minimum with a night in the refuge, and a qualified mountain leader. That is a separate arrangement.
Which season is best?
April to October for comfortable walking. In winter the higher paths are under snow but the valley stays open, and the white summits are worth the drive.
